AUCKLAND TROTS.

THE SECOND DAY.

Fields For To-morrow — Prospects Reviewed.

The Auckland Trotting Club will continue its carnival meeting at Alexandra Park to-morrow, and, judged by the excellent acceptances, good racing should be assured. One of the highlights of the afternoon's sport will be an attempt by the Australian champion, Lawn Derby, to lower the world s grass track record of 2.0 2-5 for a mile, which was established by Van Derby at Epsom several months ago. In the Oak Handicap, the opening event on the programme, Margin, on 24yds, will have a chance to atone for a narrowdefeat by Sir Tony at the recent racing at Claudelands, but Mah Jong, who showed promising form last season, Josedale Dictator, an improver, and Barney Bingen, should provide tough opposition. It is not unlikely that the public will prefer Margin, Mah Jong and Josedale Dictator. The second division of the December Handicap has drawn a tield of eighteen, many oi them unknown tjuantities. Sweet Aloes only just failed at W.iikato on December 9, where Magic Tack and Excel also ran well. Kewpie's Bingen rarely runs a bad lace, and lie has been working well on the tracks. It is a very open event, but form points to Barney Bingen, Sweet Aloes and Magic Task. Baftlevale appeared to be unlucky in. only finishing third to Fortes and Tangatu yesterday, and this daughter of Man-o'-War may do better in the Summer Handicap. She- ran 3.20 2-5 at her last start, and is on 3.27. However, Lady Vastlyne won the AkaJana Handicap very easily, while Peter Smith was going particularly well in front in hie race until he broke. Equipoise and Francisco are two other speedy pacers. The favourites may be: Battlevale, Lady Vasclyne, Peter Smith.

A fine class of pacers will parade for . the Champion Handicap, and this should be tiie best race of the day. Josedale Giattan has ye"; to reach his zenith as a racehorse. He has won several events in great style, but will be put to a severe task to beat this field. Three Bells and Token, also on the limit, can run a fast mile and a half, while, further back, the brilliant Uenuku and Marlene are sure to go well. Those prominent in the run to the judge may be Josedale G rattan, Uenuku and Three Bells. The Tramway Handicap, run over two miles, will give Honestus an opportunity to prove himself over the distance, while Molly Direct and Lynn Rey are others who are sure to command attention. Some of those engaged are not proved stayers, but, in all probability, investors will prefer Molly Direct, Lynn Rey and Honestus. Air Pilot, who is in the Epsom Handicap, did not t.ot well yesterday, but the extra distance of this event should suit him. He may meet with most opposition from Frontier Boy and Mah Jong. Seventeen horses appear in the Dominion Handicap and, of that number, Wishful, Repose, Double Peter, Kewpie's Jewel and Television have good form to commend them. The favoorites may be the Wishful-Tsana bracket, and Double Peter. Several fine sprinters are to be found* rr in the Ranfurly Handicap, and the-Oop 7 winner, Marlene, will have the chance to complete a double. Token, also on the limit, and Uenuku are others who are sure to be in demand, while Our Peggy and Red Flush have been seen to advantage over the distance. Popular fanci may be Marlene, Token and Uenuku.
