The London Transport Board ha* fonnd a new use for an old U-boat periscope-—it ha* been set up for observation purposes at the Chiswick works, where there is an intricate system of air raid trenches controlled from one room. When a raid warning comes, employees go down to the shelters beneath the works, a lookout taking his post at the periscope, the top of which extends through the roof of the shelter, so that he has a perfect view of the whole of the twenty-five-acre works. The control room, showing the periscope manned, and (left) observations being telephoned to the works manager.
