GLEN EDEN'S STRONG POSITION IN PENNANT BOWLING.

(By TRUNDLER.)

The remaining games in the fifth round of the Auckland Centre's pennant competition, interrupted by a deluge of rain in the western suburbs on Saturday week, were* played last Saturday, resulting in Glen Eden and New Lynn being unbeaten. Glen Eden met Henderson, and four_wins and no losses lifted the club to 75 per cent of wins in the four rounds now completed (the third round still has to be played, and is set down for February 25 J. This puts Glen Eden in a virtually impregnable position, for the next highest are Hillsboro on 68.75 per cent, and Rocky Nook on 67.71, after which there is a big gap to Otahuhu, with 61.25 per cent. Even if Glen Eden only breaks even with Epsom in February, Hillsboro would need to get four wins and a tic in the sis games against Auckland to reach the new position of Glen Eden, 70 per cent. Kocky ,Nook would be faced with a still stiller proposition, requiring nine wins and a tie to lift the present percentage of 67.71 to 70, so Glen Eden may be regarded as the winners of section B, unless something quite out of the ovdii'iry happens.

Remuera lost both of the remaining games on the New Lynn green, thus leaving the latter club three wins out of four, and allowing the percentage of wins to rise from 57.14 to 62.50. However, this still leaves both clubs out of the running.

Rotorua Tourney Full.

Competitors will be interested in noting that the pairs tournament at liotorua, to commence on February 19, is already full, although entries were to close on February 9, or as soon as 55 were received. However, the Rotorua committee have met the insistent demand, which threatened rather strained relations with the Bay of Plenty Centre, by putting on a second rink tournament a fortnight later, i.e., to commence on March 4. This seems a very diplomatic move, for there is only one Rotorua, and the greens belong to the people of lnvercargill just as much as they do to the people of Auckland, so it is a happy solution of the unsatisfied demand for the limited accommodation. Dominion Tournament. Intending competitors in the Dominion tournament will be glad to know that a new green for the Newtown Bowling Club has been officially opened. The green accommodation in the city of Wellington has always been limited, having regard to the large membership of the city clubs. The average is far higher than in any centre in the Dominion. The usual social during the tournament has been fixed for the first Thursday evening, January 11, at the Town Hall, and it will include a concert and dance. The day chosen seems very appropriate, for it is tne second day of the pairs, and very few will be playing in the afternoon rounds. On the Sunday morning, January 14, there is to be a bowlers' church service at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul's. The singles will not follow quite the same course as in Auckland last January. On the first day the surviving two-lifers after the fourth round, one in each of the 18 sections, will be transferred to other greens to play in the fifth round. This will mean that the second day will start the sixth round with nine two-lifers and 45 one-lifers. The whole of the section play in the pairs, on the Wednesday, will comprise four rounds, and post-section play will commence on the Thursday morning. limited to the section winners and section ti£s. The rinks will take up the next four days, as usual, two rounds each day.
