FRENCH "YELLOW BOOK." British Official Wireless. (Received noon.) RUGBY, December 22. The perfect parallelism existing during the past 18 months between French and British policy, which is shown in papers collected in a French "yellow book" on the immediate origins of the war, is regarded by the Press as the most striking feature of the publication. "Its effect," says the "Daily Telegraph," "is to deepen the sinister imipression which the now familiar facts have left on all but the Nazi mind. Britain and France had, and still have, as this "yellow book" shows, only one possible resort for their self-preserva-tion, as well as for their honour—to confront and end the imminent peril. "Before they were driven to that conclusion the Allies exhausted every effort to reach a peaceful solution, which would not be a mere postponement of the clash and a betrayal of the tranquillity and liberty of Europe. When they attempted to reach a reasonable accommodation they were cheated, and then flouted. "Desire for conciliation was affected only as a cloak to the fulfilment of ulterior designs and not at all as a token of the abandonment of ideas of conquest, and the cloak was thrown off as soon as its deceptive purposes had been served. Hitler was resolved on war."
