HINTS TO CAMPERS.
WATER AND FOOD SUPPLY.
SUGGESTIONS FOR OUTFIT.
A warning to campers to take common-sense precautions in connection with the water supjfly, keeping of food and disposal of waste is issued by the Health Department.
Shallow wells and ponds, and all streams should lie viewed with suspicion, and the water therefrom either boiled or chlorinated. For chlorination the stock preparation is a half-teaspoon* ful of chlorinated lime to a pint of water. One teaspoonful of* this mixture to ten gallons of water will make the water safe without affecting the taste. This works out at nine drops of the mixture to a quart of water.
, A portable meat safe with perforated 2inc front or side and closely fitting door should make food safe from flies, and milk and butter should be kept in a cool place. All waste should be burned and tins buried to keep ther camp free from ,flies.
In addition to the meat safe and the chlorination mixture, a first-aid outfit is advised by the Department. A suggestion is made of a few bandages, some common antiseptic, tincture of iodine and talc powder or some of the recognised creams for sunburn, with a small roll of adhesive plaster.
