AUCKLAND TROTS.

BILL B. STEPS OUT.

RUNS HALF-MILE IN 1.5.

CARNIVAL HORSES IN ACTION,

The American-bred Single G. stallion Bill B. and other Auckland Centennial Gold Cup horses paced attractively at Alexandra Park this morning and entertained a large number of spectators.

Most of the training was done on the course proper, on which the flags were out 50ft, but Bill 8., with the veteran ownerdriver J. ("Stotty") Bryce in the sulky, worked on the dirt with bis stable companion Shadow Boy, who is engaged in the Christmas Handicap. Bill B. moved lazily over a couple of rounds before Bryce allowed him to show anything like his real pace, and the big brown then ran a mile and a quarter in 2.47, the last half mile taking 1.5. Bill B. was going well within himself towards the end of his task, and it is apparent that he w an exceedingly fit horse. Shadow Boy failed in the sprint to the post and was a good way behind at the end. Another Cup contender, Battlefield (Brosnan), and his stablemate, Battlevale, joined issue with Isabel Derby (J. J. Kennerley) over two miles, but they were no use to the Kelson Derby mare, who finished the last half mile strongly in 1.8, the full distance taking 4.45. The two South Island horses disappointed by their showing, and will have to do much better to be in the money at the meeting. Battlefield was inclined to lug in. Isabel Derby, on the other hand, impressed, and if she were to do her best in the big race she might effect a surprise. The Australian bracket Lawn Derby (W. J. O'Shea) and Springfield Globe (P. Shean) left the two-mile poet on terms, but were restricted to an easy task, the first mile and a half taking 3,49, tnd the final half mile 1.10. Both horses moved attractively, but Springfield Globe was sweating profusely when he was pulled up. An impressive effort was recorded by Token (Brosnan) over a mile and a quarter. Commencing two seconds after Kewpie's Bingen (L. Laver), Lady Vasclyne (J. J. Kennerley) and Amy win (E. N. Kennerley), the Travis Axworthy gelding waited on his companions until the straight was reached and then moved up smartly to be on terms with Lady Vasclyne as they passed the pet. Token covered the distance in 2.56, the final half mile taking 1.7. Lady Vasclyne's times were 2.58 and 1.8. Kewpie's Bingen weak-ened-in the run home, but his showing was a good one for a horse in his class.

Eighteen Carat (C. M. Morrison) conceded Isabelle Pointer (W. McDonald), Lucky Love (L. Laver), and Yanora (L. J. Mahoney) three seconds' start at the commencement of a mile and a quarter task, and, after half the distance had been covered he was with Isabelle Pointer in the lead. Vanora being at the rear. Isabelle Pointer had had enough by the time the straight was reached, and Yanora then made a forward move to 'be close to Eighteen Carat as they passed the post. Eighteen Carat was going very easily over the concluding stages, the full distance taking him 3.33, while Vanora impressed by his final half mile sprint in 1.8. The last-named is on the limit in the Grandstand Handicap.

Te Roto (J. Gerrard). in good racing condition, gave Bingen's Best (J. Garnett) two seconds' start over a mile and a quarter, and had no difficulty in finishing on terms, after covering the last mile in 2.27, the final half taking 1.10. Others to get through serviceable tasks were Dick Redmond (A. Newdick), Milestone (Griggs), Equipoise (S. M. August), Bournemouth (J. J. Kennerley), Repose (E. N. Kennerley), Blue Crest (E. N". Kennerley), Bronze King (J. J. Kennerley), Gold Kip (C. M. Morrison), Black Native (J. Flanagan), Elliotvale (I.- Morrison), Handicapper (G. Stubbs), Air Pilot (F. Scrinigeour), Horsepower, Marlene, Lucky Love, Icevus.
