In the spirit of the conversations between the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir John Simon, and the French Minister of Finance, M. Paul Reynaud, regarding the necessity for close and continuous British and French co-operation in the financial and economic sphere, the further adjustments decided upon some time ago will operate from the beginning of January, 1940. There will be some further increase permitted imports of many kinds of [clothes"and apparel from France, and licenses will also be issued for the importation from France of increased quantities of footwear, and one or two other lines. These measures form an integral part of the special economic and financial arrangements, which are in force between the British and French Governments.
