NORTH SHORE WATER
Mr. C. H. M. Wills, in his informtive reply to Mr. E. C. Fowler regarding our North Shore water supply (see "Star," 19/12/39), gives his assurance that "the Takapuna mains are continuously ■watched "and are cleaned out regularly"; further, that the water "is put straight into the Takapuna reticulation system at Killarney Street, 100 yards or bo from the pumping station." This being so, and Mr. Wills writes as one in authority, it savours of the miraculous that water as illustrated in the "Star,™ 13/12/39, should run through a, tap six feet from the road in Blomfield Spa, Takapuna Central, continuously for more than 24 hours on 9/12/39 and on many previous days—water that you cannot drink or even bath in. I am told iby others in authority that the ■water leaves the pumping station crystal clear, though impregnated with chemicals and so odorous as to be nauseous. Others, as well as the writer, would be glad of an explanation of the seemingly miraculous. "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." J.W.W.
