ASSAULT WHEN INSANE.
MAM'S DETENTION ORDERED.

NEW PLYMOUTH, Monday,
Without leaving the l>ox a jury in the Supreme Court found John Oriffenhoofe A brain not guilty on a charge of usmvult, on the grounds that he was insane at the time.
Mr. .Justice Smith ordered accused's detention in a mental hospital until the pleasure of the Minister of Justice i-i known.
A bra in was charged with assaulting Mrs. D. S. M. Baker, his mother-in-law, 011 August 10, at New Plymouth, causing actual bodily harm. According to the prosecution the assault occurred when Abrani's wife, from whom he had agreed to separate, went to Abram's liouso to collect clothing. She was handing clothing to her mother when Abram caught her and assaulted Mrs. Baker with a hammer.
For the defence medical evidence was called to show that since a head acci dont Abram had developed eplleptis seizures, and that when the aa&ault occurred he was suffering from epileptic imbecility.
