THE OXFORD GROUP.
Registration As A Public
Company.
GIVEN LEGAL PERSONALITY.
(Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 16. The Oxford Group has been registered as a public company, limited, by guarantee and described as a non-profit-making association. The word limited was dispensed with by permission of the Board of Trade.
The object is the advancement of the Christian religion, particularly in accordance with the Group's principles.
A ruling of the Chancery Division on March 9 held that the Oxford Group had no legal standing. A bequest of £500 was invalid because the Group did not exist as an association of which anybody could be secretary, nor did it have an officer legally capable of giving a receipt for a legacy. It was subsequently decided to incorporate the group as an association to give it legal personality, and on Junp 8 the President of the Board, of Trade announced in the "House of Commons that it. had been decided to grant the group a license under the Companies Act.
