Guiniven, when a letter was received by the Takapuna Borough Council last night from the Auckland town clerk regarding hospital taxation and contributions from the Social Security Fund and advising that his" council "is of the opinion that the matter has been adequately dealt with by tin-; AucltTand Hospital Board. "It is a shame that one section of the community—the ratepayers —should Sjgs called upon to pay this taxation," said the Mayor. "The Government should take over the hospitals." <if
"The hospital boards are bleeding the people right and left," said Mr. C. V. Holyoak, "but I think with each new board there will be new inefficiencies. 5 ' He was in support of a unified system.
Mr. C. H. Wills moved that the tows clerk should write to the Municipal Association asking that the whole question be reconsidered and putting forward the council's suggestion that the hospitals should be nationalised.
Mr. C. L. Clifton suggested that thft clerk should also write to all local bodies askinjr them to write to the Municipal Association requesting the association te formulate some other scheme.
