REALLY ELOQUENT.

DAVID LLOYD GEORGE.

Sidelights on the character of David Lloyd George were given to members of the Auckland Junior Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon by the Rev. Dr. R. C. Gillie, of St. Davids Church, in the course of a talk on "Studies in Personality."

Dr. Gillie said that Lloyd George was one of the few men who had the gift of real eloquence as distinct from rhetoric. He could give an address and be absolutely sure of the close attention of his audience, whatever the subject. He also had an amazing gift of repartee.

Dealing with that statesman's leadership during the war, the speaker said that that was proof of his power of detecting a crisis. "That is one big line of division in men," Dr. Gillie added. "There are thoee who can see and are prepared to face a crisis, and those who neither see it nor would be prepared to face it if they could."
