ANNUAL RECEPTION.

OVERSEAS LEAGUE.

THREE SERVICES REPRESENTED.

The annual reception of the Auckland Branch of the Overseas League was held in the club, rooms last night, and representatives of the three services were guests of honour for the evening. The club lounge had been attractively decorated for the occasion with large bowls of irises and asparagus fern, and the supper tables were arranged with Iceland poppies in mixed shades. The guests were received by Mr. C. Rattray, chairman of the executive committee, He was assisted by Mrs. C. M. Rattray, who was wearing a frock of geranium-coloured satin beaute, and Mrs. J. M. Melville, wife of a vice-presi-dent, who was in a gown of lime green cloque.

The guests of honour included Colonel N. McD. Weir and Mrs. Weir, who was in a frock of black crepe satin relieved with a cowl of ciel blue lame; Lieuten-ant-Commander H. G. Lewis, R.N., representing Captain H. M. Barnes, R.N.; Squadron-Leader H. B. Burrrell and Mrs. Burrell, who was wearing a frock of gold lame.

The reception committee, comprising representatives of the various branches of the Overseas League, included: Mrs. V. Bosworth (drama circle), wearing a frock of black taffeta; Miss E. H. Willoughby (emergency committee), in flame and moss green crepe; Mrs. Sholto Smith (music circle), in black velvet, relieved with gold; Mrs. E. L. Burton (programme committee), in gold taffeta; Miss K. Ford (secretary), mauve and blue floral chiffon; Miss Amy Sutton (house committee), black satin and velvet; Miss Pearl Harty (business girls' circle), gold beaded net; Mrs. E. S. Weave (junior branch), red and white flowered crepe; Mrs. L. Wilson, black ring velvet; and Miss Josephine McClymont, navy blue georgette. The programme for the evening was arranged by Mrs. Sholto Smith and included songs by Miss Judith Glover, Miss May Stewart and Mr. James Ramsay; recitations, by Mr. J. B. Finlayson and Miss Phyllis Harborne; 'cello solos by Mr. Victor Tom; and dance numbers by Mr. Desmond Jennings and Mr. Lloyd Jennings. Mrs. SholtO Smith was the accompanist. During the evening an address entitled "Our Debt To The Three j Services" was given by Judge F. O. V. j Acheson, president of the Auckland Branch of the Overseas League.
