NEW ZEALAND CHILDREN.
BENEFITS OF SCHOOL MILK. "The issue of a daily half pint of milk at the schools is now available to 190,000 children," states the annual report of the -Health Department. "Sehool medical officers and teachers are unanimous that children taking the milk are showing marked benefit in their physical wellbeing, and in an activity and alertness beyond that formerly met with at school."
It is reported that the beneficial effects of the milk are most noticeable in the members of large families and in the poorer districts. The children appear stronger, have clearer complexions and have gained considerably in weight.
"School niilk has undoubtedly done much good," says one medical officer. "The teachers are showing increased interest in the physical well-being of their pupils."
In some districts where difficulty was experienced in persuading the children to take the milk in the winter owing to its coldness this trouble was overcome by warming the supply. The malted milk scheme, where it was in operation, was a complete success.
