TROTTING.
TRAINING AT EPSOM.
ONLY MINOR OPERATIONS.
FUTURE OF KING'S WARRIOR. \
Horses with engagements at the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting at Alexandra Park on Saturday,: August 26, were restricted to minor'tasks at Epeom this morning; in fact, most of the work was confined to jogging on the sand. However, Repose (J. J. Kennerley), working alone, was taken over a mile and a half on the dirt track,' and, after covering the first quarter at a very leisurely pace, ran the next half mile in 1.19, the final half taking 1.15—2.34 for the mile. Repose is inclined to . laziness when unaccompanied. S. M. August exercised Musketeer and Great Chum, both unhoppled, but neither horse was allowed to go fast—halves in 1.18. Musketeer is looking Well, but Great Chum is above himself in condition. The trotters Win Bingen and Surprise Packet went pleasingly over a couple of rounds for T. Roe, and both will be in good order for their engagements. All the members of M. Stewart's team jogged on the sand for about an hour, and it ie apparent that they are coming along nicely in their preparation. Others to do useful jogging exercise were Munga Tangi and Blue Crest (L. Laver), Great Parrish and Lucky Love (C. M. Morrison), Claypot and Princess Linnett (J. Paton), Charterig Bay and Wharekawa (Cole), Handicapper and Autumn Lou (G. Stubbs), Bingen's Best (H. Garnett), Kewpie's Bingen (H. McNaughton) and Shrewdie (E. N. Kennerley). The Rey de Oro pacer Equipoise, winner of several races last term, and who promised to enhance his record this season, was on the track, but was only walked. He hurt himself recently and it was noticeable this morning that he still favoured a foreleg.
King's Warrior, who was taken to Addington to compete in principal events at the Metropolitan meeting, was not brought back to Auckland by F. J. Smith. There is a likelihood that he will accompany Nervie's Last to Perth to compete in the inter-Dominion championships next February. '.Smith won only one race with his team of four at Addington and this went to the credit of the trotter Swordsman. Nell Volo would probably have scored on the concluding day if she had not lost over 100 yards through breaking juat after the start. Her third in the circumstances wag a creditable effort.
