VENDOR FINED.
MILK FOUND ADULTERATED. OTAHUHU PROSECUTION. In the Magistrate's Court at Otahuhu to-day, before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., Frai-k Xorman Bell was charged -with supplying milk with added water. It was stated that on April 24, about 6 o'clock in the evening, Mr. Miles, of the Health Department, tested two samples of milk from defendant, which were found to contain 16 and 18 per cent respectively of added water. Counsel for defendant, Mr. Lovegrove, said that his client employed labour, and he was not in the shed at the time. H,; had many years of experience, and his reports from the Metropolitan Milk Council were of a very high order. On investigation Hell found that his cooler was leakin?, and also that the hose connection was leaking, one of the shed hands having disconnected the hose to get a drink of water. Evidence of a similar nature was given by Bell.
The magistrate said Bell's samples had been excellent for inany years, but owners should realise they fire responsible for any wrong done in their sheds, and an inspection should be made from time to time. "I do not propose to make the penalty as substantial as in other circumstances." the magistrate said. "Defendant will be convicted and fined £3, with 15/ costs, analyst 10/6, and costs on the other charges." 1
