PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS.
QUEEN STREET RE-ARRANGEMENT
; Antlioritv has been given to the engineer and manager of the Auckland Transport Board, Mr. A. E. Ford, to agree to a suitable re-arrangeinent of the safety zones in Queen 'Street so as to synchronise with pedestrian crossings. This was decided at to-day's meeting of the hoard on the recommendation contained in a report brought forward by the traffic congestion committee, which had conferred with the Auckland City Council public safety committee on the matter.
A further recommendation that the Transport Board should decline to contribute towards the cost of the installation of automatic signals was referred back to the committee, it being pointed out by members that it would be preferable to leave the door open for further negotiations, after inquiries had lieen nuide as to the cost of transport board officers operating the signals at tram junctions.
