THE DESERTED CASTLE.
<By Muriel Grainger, 2, Finch Strwt, Morningside.) Tall and etately, through the gloom Of oncoming night, (Silently the yellow moon Floods the world with light. All around that eerie place Telling of historic race, Bracken mingled with rose thorns, Stands—and majestically mourns. An owl nesting in the hall Cries out loudly—then is fled, With a long, low, jrhostly call, As if to awake the dead. Waste doth round thee gloat, Destruction in thy eye, ' From the empty moat To the turret in the sky.
