Advice was received re the method of friendly society members receiving Hick pay under the .Social Security Act. A letter from the Druid** Provincial Hospital Fund advised that the President. Bro. H. Pollock, P.D.P., would be leaving Auckland shortly and the whole position of the fund and its continuance is to be discussed at a general meeting. The grand lodge report was given by the lodge delegate. Hro. .). T. Brown. Quiet but steady progress is being made with the'membership of the order, which now stands at J4.l)iil). Over 200 member* are now being relieved of payment of dues under rule 42a. The reduction of the ape from liS to t>s ban enabled more to take advantage of this concession. A vote of ««ympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Bro. \V. Murphy, of Victoria Waikino, who wan recently drowned. After the ceremony a fragrant bompiet was presented to the installing officer who then addressed the meeting, and congratulated the new o(h>er«. She then presented the retiring P.NX!., Sister Elian, with her P.X.d. collar and certificate, the sieter suitably responding. As the flag 500 evenings have proved such a financial success, it has been decided to hold them each month, starting on the Bth inst. At the conclusion of the proceedings supper was served by the social (iiiiunittee. thu.s bringing a busy, but happy evening to a cloee.

The Loyal Kaipaki Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F.. had an excellent attendance at their last meeting, over which the X.(1., Bro. C. Cuir«*;ham, presided. Visitors were present from L. Cambridge Lodge, and received a hearty welcome. Bro. D. S. Kntwistle. of Cambridge, gave some information re the Social Security Act. After the routine business had been transacted, a degree lodge was formed and five members were raised to a higher degree. This ceremony was ably conducted by the lecture master, Bro. W. Kelly. The evening concluded with supper and a pleasant social hour.

The Youthful Enterprise Juvenile Temple, 1.0. G.T., met on Thursday evening, the chair being taken by Sister X. Warren. The election of officers was held and the following were chosen for the ensiling term: —Chief Templer, Sister Xclda Warren; V.T.. Sister S. Richards, secretary, Bro. O. Hewitt; <haplain, Sister E. Schellback; marshal. Bro. W. Large; deputy marshal, Sister N. Smith; financial secretary, Sister M. Schellbaek; treasurer, Sister I. Shaw; guard, Bro. E. Richards; sentinel, Bro. F. Hadwin; assistant secretary, Sister l! Smith; registrar, Sister Y. de Burgh. The 0.5. J.W., Bro. Pace, conducted the installation ceremony. being ably assisted by the D.S.J.W., Sister Yearbury, and P.D.S.J.W.. Sister Cant. A busy evening concluded with games.

A special meeting of the Fountain of Friendship Lodge. No. 349, was held on Tuesday last in the Newton Road lodge room to consider the disposal of the surplus funds. After a brief discussion the suggestions of the committee were unanimously adopted. Two candidates for membership were duly initiated with full ceremony and welcomed. The quarterly balance-sheet showed the funds to be in their usual healthy condition. At the conclusion of the business, an adjournment was made to the supper room where a very pleasant function took place. This was the presentation of a life sized photograph in colours of Bro. T. Battersby. P.(f.. and trustee. By special request the presentation was made by Bro. E. Leyden, P.(... who in a very neat speech referred to the great work Bro. Battersby had done for the lodge. These remarks were ably supported by Bro. H. Iβ House. P.fJ., and the secretary, Bro. H. B. Halstead, P.G. On rising to reply Bro. Battersby received an ovation, and at the conclusion of a feeling speech

was accorded musical honours. Bro. Battersby received a smaller copy of the photograph. During the evening Mr. <;race pave an exhibition of magic, which was greatly enjoyed. A number ot visits to and from other lodges have l>oen arranged and some very enjoyable evenings are anticipated. The Alpha Juvenile Lodge. No. 1, 1.0.0.F.. had an excellent attendance at their installation of officers, the acting >>.<;.. Bro. Shaw, opening the meeting nt 7.:J() p.m. At S p.m. the Noble Grand entered and assumed control of the lodge. The routine business was effectively dealt with and the members then prepared for installation. Sister Culpitt. L.D.D.C.M.. accompanied bv Sister Holes. P.L.D.D.0.M., and a suite of officers representing the Rebekah lodges of the district, carried out the ceremony with great impressiveiiess ami -kill. The new officers are:—N.(i.. Bio. Shaw; Y.C.. P.C.'s Bros. Strange. Doiill. Hawes and Baker were again elected and installed in their offices of president, vice-president, financial secretary, and preceptor respectively. After the. installation was completed, thanks were conveyed to the installing ofiicers for their excellent work. The Alexandra Lodge. Xo. 53. Protectant Alliance. Friendly Society of Australasia, held its regular session in the Orange I fall, Newton Road, on Wednesday last, a good attendance being recorded. Some members were reported to be down with the influenza and fraternal sympathy was extended to them. The conference delegates were present after their trip to Invereargill. and they gave a very good account of the., proceedings. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded them for their good work, it being generally felt that the lodge and society will benefit as a result of the conference's deliberations. Quite a lot of important business was dealt with under the able guidance; of the W.M., Bro. Banks. The social committee was thanked for its successful efforts to make the social side of the lodge so enjoyable, and members who have not been able to attend for a while will find a. great difference on their return. At the close of the evening some good games of darts v.ere played.
