ORIGINAL RECITAL.

MODERN DANCE FORMS. ACCOMPLISHED ARTIST. Humour, tragedy, grace, beauty— every quality for fine and subtle dancing —were expressed when Miss Sonia Revid gave a recital of her own composition of modern art dancee at the Lewis Eadv Hall last night. With the simplest of stage draperies and harmonious lighting, and an attractive selection of costuming for each dance, Miss Revid interpreted, through movement, the beauty of music. There was an intensity in her work that -was moet compelling and the outstanding numbers will live long in the memory of the large audience, who were most enthusiastic in their reception. A dance suite in three movements, entitled "Lady Capricious and Her Moods," opened the programme. It was followed by "Little Fool and Her Adventures," a dance suite for children of all ages. To Tschaikowsky's "Humoresquc," Little Fool was " introduced. When Little Fool had toothache (Oounod's "Funeral March of a Marionette") each beat of the music was like the thump of pain on a sensitive nerve and there was real terror when, the toothache having left a mark on Little Fool, she imagines she is pursued by evil spirits. The music for this was from "Danse Macabre" (Saint-Saens). Perhaps the major work of the evening was a portrayal of human experiences. This was most arresting and in the various shades of emotion Mis> Revid was at her beet. Her interpretation of Despair was a perfect gem in a most satisfying collection and deserved the unanimous appreciation it received. There is no doubt that this. Russian girl is an artist. She dances with her mind as well as her body, and through her interpretations gives an Auckland audience a new idea on dancing as a rare and accomplished art. The proceeds of the recital will "<> towards the Y.W.C.A. funds.
