TITIRANGI TAKE HANNA MUG HOME.

JUNIORS TOO GOOD.

The first clash for the Hanna Mug between Auckland and Titirangi lacked something of the traditional atmosphere in that the teams were not at full strength and that for some unexplained reason the serioue side of golf this season is glow in casting itt, spell. As it transpired, the result was much in favour of Titirangi, but the keen student will be aware of much that does not meet the eye. It would be both laborious and unprofitable to enter upon a detailed description of play, but brief mention o£ the day's highlights will not be out of place. For Middlemore B. H. Menzies. K. M. Wilson and the taii-ender, R. W. Seton, who at the last moment was pressed into service, probably <lid best in their respective spheres. Seton did not win hie singles, nor tor that matter was he successful in the four tall, but there was much in the way in which he withstood Galloway'e attack that was captivating. He fought a losing battle with supreme courage.

Menzies, on the day, overshadowed Davidge, who did not reveal hi* brilliant play <it Saturday. Aβ a cynic humorously lint, it —if Much an admixture of expression tail be permitted—Davidge qualified to be written tip one day and written off the next. Davidge's tee shots had not their customary reliability, nor coul<? he cajole the ball into the hole with certainty. Men/.ies played along steadily, and the accuracy of hiw second allots soon gave him an advantage that Duvidge could not offset.

Wilson wag one under fours at the point where he won lua singles and then proceeded to return a 72 iu the four ball. Unfortunately, he required four ior the ehort tenth hole, though he could have no complaint at hie lotal of 29_ stroked for the enduing eight iiolee. Wilson in yet another ot the very long drivers gradually getting to the top. Possibly tiie shot* of youth appear longer than they really are, but there can be no gainsaying the fact that the length Wileon i« capable of getting ie colossal. There was not an undue amount of run, beside* which the uncut fairwaye often strangled distance. .Especially good from distances of one hundred yards or bo and downward from the flag, and good on the greens, Wilson has a future in the game.

For Titirangi L. H. Robson piayed right up to hie status of club champion, while J. H. Young, (J. Gallon-ay, J. M. (Joltnian, 1. Wylde and B. T. Layoock did mainly all that was asked of them. A'oung, while not happy on the green*, highly effective wo. k to the flag. There were some delightfully bright interludes ami exchanges in his singles match with R. K. Bell. Bell is a very sound addition to Middlemow'e playing strength. Though Auckland finished the day with a .slight advantage on their own course, the lunch time score at Titirangi showed that the -Mug was destined to leave Middlemore. Auckland had only three wins at New Lynn, but if many of their opponents were in the same form as was N. A. Xaiomith, then there ie some excuse for defeat. Na> smith, off 8, was round in 79 in the morning with a 6 to finish, and in the afternoon played the first half m 3/. Apart from striking trouble at the Utn, 15th and 17th he had bogey figures at other holes on the second half. LADIES' CONTESTS. TITIRANGI CLUB.
