A STRONG TEAM.

TAKANINI HORSES.

PROSPECTS AT AUTKLAND.

OUR JEAN AND MIA ACREA.

Most of the Takanini horses are now being sent along in their work in anticipation of the late autumn meetings and track proceedings are accordingly becoming more interesting. A pleasing feature of the latest track work is the manner in which several of the Takanini candidates for the chief events at Ellerslie are working, and much encouragement is being shown by Our Jean and Orelio, who are candidates for the Champagne Stakes; Mia Acrea, a Brighton Hurdles prospect; Round Up, who promises to be a force to be reckoned with in the Easter Handicap; Valamito, the top-weight in the President's Handicap, and juveniles claiming engagements in the minor events.

Our Jean's form at Te Aroha was very impressive, and the Vaals filly, in the interim, lin.s been seen to even more advantage on the track, indicating a definite improvement as a result of those outings. In the classy Champagne Stakes field Our Jean will be tested, but has many Takanini admirers, who favour her chances of success. Orelio. another local candidate for the same event, lias had the benefit of a spell since Christmas, when he ran third to High Caste and Beatilivre in the Foal Stakes, and he is again at his best. Orelio cannot be left out of calculations, as he is not likely to be adversely affected by lack of recent racing.

Round Up has proved the beet of the northern handicappers this season and possesses all the necessary attributes of a first-class miler. and with 9.3 is by no meang out of it in the Enster Handicap. His beginning ability should enable him to

take up a good position early, and he invariably unwinds a brilliant run at the finish of his races, so that his chances of

success on this occasion can be very highly regarded.

' Valamito is a consistent performer, who has a couple of defeats recorded against hie name since he fell while contesting the chief event on the second day of the Auckland midsummer meeting, but he will probably have regained his confidence by now, and the dash he ie displaying in his work encourages the belief that he will be at his best again for the Auckland autumn fixture.

Mia Acren's recent efforts indicate that the Acre gelding i« right at the top of his form, and with three successes to his credit ;.thie 'season appeals as a jumper likely to extend his record in the near future. Mia Acrea has improved in his fencing, and as a Brighton Hurdles prospect looks likely to gain a lot of support. i

Esquire is working satisfactorily, and although his prospects have been marred to a great degree by his barrier manners, he would onJy need to leave correctly to take a hand in the decision of the minor two-year-old events. He has always given the impression that he would stay rather well, and 6hould be suited by the sixfurlong journeys at the Easter meeting. Lady Fox ie working well, and her turn cannot be very far off, while a youngster who has yet to make'his debut, but is showing a great deal of encouragement, is Tellsom, a black colt by Bronze Eagle from the Catmint mare Silent Miss. He is a very bold mover and is expected to turn out well when he has gained experience. Royevnis is showing all his former dash and hae been one of the early selections for the Easter Handicap. Unquestionably a very useful sort, the Surveyor colt's prospects would be very highly assessed in the event of rain to ease track conditions. At the same time he should still prove a force to be reckoned with if started, aa he is lightly weighted. Brazilian has recovered all his former brilliance, and, despite an enforced respite, he is likely to be seen to advantage in the near future, as he ie a galloper of more than average ability. Brazilian will be paraded at Ellerslie, where his form should prove a reliable guide to his subsequent prospects.

The two-year-old Buccaneer has been getting through some nice work, but will not be required to race again this season. He has been spelled, and during the interval added to the list. The Constant Son youngster will have an excellent chance of being brought along for the new season's early classic events. This gelding is very highly regarded by his connections.

Gay Movie is to reappear at Ellerslie, and while her preparation has been a restricted one owing to several interruptions, the Snrgon filly appears bright and well, and with the benefit of a race will have a later opportunity of fulfilling the promise she displayed earlier in the season.

Brilliant Acre continues to display dash in his schooling and is developing a proficiency in this department which augurs well for his future prospects. Possessing any amount of pace, the Acre gelding should win hurdle races, and it will he interesting to see how he fares in the hurdle events at the Whangarei meeting later in the month.
