DIFFICULT JOB.

CONSTABLES SUCCEED. i • —___ LUNATIC ON WINDMILL DOWN AT LAST. (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, March 30. The unusual epeetacle of two constables struggling- with a lunatic at the top of a 50ft windmill was seen in Gos.ford this week. The man concerned had been committed to the Reception House, but had escaped while leaving the court and gained the roof of the Royal Hotel. His mother climbed on to the roof to endeavour to quieten him, but he jumped off the roof on to the windmill and climbed up to a narrow ledge at the top. When the two constables who were chasing him proceeded to climb up after him the windmill began to rock. While they were all clinging to it one constable swung a rope round one of the man's legs and tried to pull him down, but he clung to his perch. One of the constables then attracted the man's attention while the other on the other side of the windmill got a rope over one of his arms. Even then the two constables had the greatest difficulty in getting the unfortunate man on to the roof, and after he had been handcuffed and had also had his legs tied it took four policemen to carry him to the police station.
