EFFICIENCY MOVE.

THE AUCKLAND BOARD.

PERSONNEL ANNOUNCED,

The plan to promote smoother operations on the various wharves throughout New Zealand has been advanced a further stage by the announcement of the personnel of the boards who will be associated with the scheme.

On the Auckland Waterfront Trans- ! port Control Board representatives of the employers will be Mr. R. J. Fore- i man, of the Sluvw Savill and Albion Co.. Ltd., and Mr. G. S. Poole, of Leonard and Dingley, Ltd., and the waterside worker-/ representatives will be Mr. T. H. Solomon and Mr. W. J. Cuthbert, president and walking delepate of the Auckland Waterside Workers' Union respectively. The last-namedj representatives were appointed by the/ national executive of the Waterside' Workers' Federation. /

The federation representatives on Ehe national board, to which local bowrds are to report, are Messrs.- J. Flood (Lyttelton), J. Roberts and J. 0. .Johnson (Wellington). ' No announcement as to the employers' representative on this board has yet been made, /while the chairman of the board will be independently appointed. The Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. ('. Webb* is to convene the. initial meeting •of the national board, and if the local boards cannot agree upon their chairmen he will appoint them.

The duties of local boards will he to investigate and report on all matters relating to working on the wharves, to use every effort to adjust disputes so that stoppages arc precluded and to report on any new method or methods for the more efficient loading or discharge of cargo. The functions of the national board will be to consider and co-ordinate reports received from local hoards, make investigations at any port or ports throughout the Dominion and report to the Minister: from time to time.
