TROOP MOVEMENTS. Concentrations on Polish Frontier. REASON FOR STATEMENT. Independent Cable Service. (Received 10.30 a.m.) ■ LONDON, March 31. With ominously frequent, though still unconfirmed, reports of German troop concentrations on the Polish frontier filtering to London, it was understood that Cabinet yesterday had decided to pledge British support to Poland in the event of unprovoked aggression. It was also understood that the exact nature of Mr. Chamberlain's statement to the House of Commons would depend on the Polish reply to certain proposals and questions which Sir Howard Kennard, British Ambassador to Poland, submitted to Colonel Beck. It was further suggested that Mr. Chamberlain would issue an unqualified warning to Germany that Britain will oppose by all means in her power, any new act of aggression in Europe. Mr. Greenwood, in the House of Commons, asked whether any statement on the international situation would be made, and Mr. Chamberlain said: "Yes at the end of the day." Mr. Greenwood: In view of the gravity of the situation nobody will wish to press the Prime Minister to make a statement earlier than he thinks possible. Mr. Chamberlain admitted that he was aware of rumours and added that they were unconfirmed from any official information in his possession. It is understood this reference was to rumours of alleged German troop movements on the Polish frontier. "The Times" had reported that the British Cabinet held two special meetings yesterday to consider reports from the Continent regarding relations between Poland and Germany. Reports were received also of German , military activity at points near the Polish frontier. Confirmation was received of German suggestions to Poland for a settlement of the Danzig issue, the construction of a motor road across the Polish Corridor, and the clarification of Poland's attitude toward the Soviet. The correspondent in Warsaw of "The Times" said the so-called Nazi white stockings were appearing in Poland. The wearers are German nationals.
