POTATO-ONION MARKET. i- ~ PRICES FAVOUR PRODUCERS. Vl . Potatoes and onions are in short supply on the Auckland markets, and prices are considerably higher than usual at this _ time ot th e year. Pukekohe supplies of ' potatoes are mostly confined to a portion ot the autumn seed cm op. The season »t .) Kangitikei is nearly finished, and Ohakune [i now provides one of the chief sources of tl supply. Southern potatoes arriving j„ Auckland are smaller than in past seasons owing to t>!ie effects of the drv spell Digging in the South Island has been a started earlier than usual to meet the kei n -New Zealand demand, and regular weekh shipments are expected to reaoh Auckland during the next few months. Shipments of onions to Australia have depleted stocks for local use, and the prices being paid for Southern onions for Auckland requirements are high. The anticipations are that the market will continue firm throughout the autumn and winter. Australian pollaixl has eased in price, the reduction being 10/ a ton, and this should simulate the Xew Zealand demand. Supplies of local bran and pollard are both still on the short side. Another shipment of Australan wheat is due at Auckland on April 21 by the Kurow. Chaff has fallen 15/ a ton in price consequent on lower prices in the South for the new season's crop. Australian lwrley is still adequate until next shipment arrives at Easter. j; Current wholesale cash prices for potatoes, ex store, are as follows: Ohakune. * 6/6 to 7/3 a bag of 561b: Pukekohe, 3 6 - to 4/6 a bag of 561b: Rangitikei. from £13 ( to £14 a ton; South Island, from £12 10/ j. to £13 10/ a ton. Additional changes are , made for booking and ca.iting to rail or steamer. t Onion prices in Auckland range from £20 to £21 a ton, ex store. Wheat.—ll/9 to 12/ per cental. Barley.—Clipped. 9/8 to 10/ per cental; i undipped, 8/8 to 9/. A reduction on these piices is available for deliveries from ship's ' side on a cash basis. Barley Meal.—lo/ to 10/6 per cental. Wheatmeal.—l3/6 per cental. Maize.—l 4/ upwarcis per cental; crushed. 15/3 to 15/8.
