WOMEN'S MATCHES.

MISS JOHNS A CENTURY. IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE. . A , fine century by Miss I. Johns, of the Auckland Ladles' Hockey Association's B team, was a feature of the main senior game of the Auckland Women's Cricket Association's competitions, which were continued on Saturday at Walker Park. Gaining the honour of hitting up the first century of the season, Miss Johns gave an impressive display. She met the bowling with the full face of the bat and scored freely on both sides of the wicket.

Century-makers in women's cricket are rare, and m the Auckland Association's games two centuries only have been previously registered—those of Miss M. West in 1930 and Miss K. Browne in 1935, Undeterred by a dislocated thumb, Miss Johns opened the innings for her side and carried her bat for 105, when A.L.H.A. B declared agninst Arawh. The performance of Miss K. Painton was also creditable. Entering as seventh batsman, she played aggressively to score 36 before being bowled. Arawa were dismissed cheaply for 50 runs, only two players reaelung double figures. The best bowling average, of three wickets for 12, wms returned by Miss Mom Painton, who used her pace to advantage on a fast wicket. The lead In the junior grade championship was wrested from A.L.H.A. by Suburbs A when they gained * six-point win over the former eleven. Suburbs failed in their first innings, but, rallying in the second innings, won the match by a margin of 27 runs. Miss H. Trapani was again outstanding with her bowline, taking five wickets for 15 runs. A.L.H.A., who were weakened by the absence of players, showed greater ability on the field than at the crease. In spite of Suburbs A's lead, final honours in this grade are still in doubt. Killarua, who have recently been regraded from senior to junior section, defaulted to Suburbs B. Results were as follow: — SENIOR GRADES. c ' Arawa v. A.L.H.A. B.—A-L.H.A. B: Pint innings, 230 (I. Johns 105 not out, K. Painton 3d, I. Adams 28).
