Solemn Pontifical Mass to invoke Divine blessing on the work of the Catholic schools for 1939 was sung in St. Patrick's Cathedra! yesterday morning, in the presence of a full congregation. Almost half the seating accommodation was occupied by nuns and brothers of the various teaching orders who staff the Catholic schools.

A Franciscan friar, Rev. Father Killian, preached the sermon, taking as his text. "Go, Teach All Nation*." He said that Catholic education was charged to-day with being old-fashioned and unscientific. Th* truth wee that it was the only genuinely scientific form of education, since it was based on the eternal verities, and the child was taught to know, love and serve God. Thus. the child wae prepared, not only to play his or her part in this life, and to be a good citizen, but to realiae that as one lived here bo would it be with the soul in eternity.
