Centre is the Toshogu Shrine itself, built by the third Shogun, Iyemitsu Tokugawa, for his grandfather at a cost of millions. No. 3 shows the procession, the members clad in old costumes reminiscent of the days of the Shogunate.' The festival offers a spectacle not to be paralleled in this twentieth century.
