The quantity of Ceylon tea placed under offer at the weekly sale held at Colombo on January 24 amounted to 2,750,060 ib weight. The quality of the offerings showed an improvement over that which has been offered at the last few sales, and there was a strong demand, and a. general upward tendency in prices attributed largely to the smaller offerings in the near future. Commons and Price Broken Orange Pekoe advanced %d per lb. Plain Broken Orange Pekoe advanced %d per lb. while First Classic Broken Pekoe and Fine Broken Orange showed a rise of from %d to Id per lb. Exchange was unchanged. At next week's sale the quantity to offered is expected to be 1.450,0001b weight.
