Possessing by far the severest overhead play of the competition, R. McKenzie (Wellington) had no difficulty in beating Smith (Wellington), who recovered in the second set and forced McKenzie into errors. Xola Rymes (Auckland) was far too good for June Carrell (Wellington). The latter made too many mistakes, off easy shots, really I»eati'ng herself.
