Parry, iid to-night that photographs in the .i , 11y newspapers of the destruction by lire of considerable areas of bush in Australia must sadden the heart* of NeW Zealrtnders, who had a rtlnmkitflls admiration for the native treee and ferns of their country. There were, however, some citizens wlirwo lack of care and thought in the bush or 011 roads skirting it caused trees of value and scenic beauty to disappear. "It Is sail," remarked Mr. Parry, "to have to use the misfortune .. another country to plead again for the protection ajrainst nl'e of New Zealand's native btish, but what better example than the ghastly bush fires 111 Australia, with the toll they made of valuable human lives, could be given the eye* and' understanding of -New Zealander*."
