AUSTRALIA IS NOT ANSWERED.
BRITISH INQUIRIES. Attitude to Control of Meat Imports. ! i COUNCIL TO ASK AGAIN. I nileil Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 1 .P,u p.m.) LONDON. January 10. Beyond acknowledging Britain's right to reconstitute the Kmpire Beef Council into an Kmpire Meat Council Australia has not replied to inquiries concerning Australia's views on the council s tentative scheme for control of mutton and lamb imports. The council had expressed its willingness lo revise the plan if necessary before submitting it to the Hoard of Trade. I he council, which had met to consider the Dominions replies, adjourned and will approach the Australian authorities again. I here is a possibility of a most delicate po-itioii arising it' the absence ot a reply can he interpreted as meaning that Australia does not recognise Britain s right to ask the Dominions to \oluntarily accept restrictions. Britain is hard pressed to meet the demands of her home farmers, and the decision to instruct vlie council to institute control of mutton ami lamb imports was made under strong pressure from the farming constituencies, where the Government is endeavouring to revive its hold.
