DISTURBING INFLUENCE.
CRUISER AT TIMARU. The placidity of the Timaru Trotting Club's meeting oil Saturday last was disturbed when O. E. Hooper, after driving Cruiser "to win the Kerry town Handicap, was subjected to a hostile reception from a big section of the crowd. The hooting commenced before the winner entered the birdcage, and there were cries of "Put him out" and "Are the stipes asleep?" until the driver disappeared into the drivers' room. Cruiser had raced earlier in the day in a mile race, the Salisbury Handicap, but he was not prominent. The crowd evidently regarded his form as inconsistent. Cruiser had previously finished fourth at Ashburton and again at Canterbury Park, but his complete failures are many. During the present season he lias started seven times for one win, and last year in Ift starts he was once first and twice second. In the 1930-37 season he was once second in 13 starts, and in the previous year he was unplaced in five starts. Altogether he has proved most unreliable, and has possibly cost his connections a. good sum of money. The demonstration against Hooper and his horse was hardly deserved. i
