SANDERS CUP RULES. WELLINGTON SUGGESTION. CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") IXVERCARGILL, thin day. Three wins by any one of the eix boats will decide the fate of the Sanders Cup this year, but there _is a possibility that in future contests the system will be altered to avoid undue prolonging of the series. This decision was arrived at last night, when a conference of delegates met at Bluff. Mr. F. •!. Riggs, president of the Southland Yacht and Motor Boat Association, was elected chairman. Those present were Messrs. C. <». Daw (Auckland), J. Nolan, C. A. Highet (Wellington), W. Beanland, K. E, Cooiube* (Canterbury), E. Cavys, A. Cameron (Otago). O. E. Johnson (Southland). T. K. Bragg, L. Daweon (Stewart Island). When the method of deciding the contest was discussed, alterations to the present system, under which adverse weather might prolong the contest indefinitely, was considered desirable, and the Wellington system, as explained by Mr. Highet, met with general approval. If at the end of five races no boat has three wins a point system should be adopted, contended Mr. Highet* This retained the original stipulation regarding decision by three wins. One point was awarded for every boat beaten over the preceding live races. If the boat with the most number of points had been beaten three times by any other boat, that boat had the right of challenge and a Bixth race between the two would decide the issue. It was decided to recommend this system to each association and yachting district engaged in the contests, replies to reach Mr. Beanland not later than March 31. The Wellington delegates pointed out that at the races next year, during the Centennial, a number of new entries might be received, making the series extremely unwieldy if the three-win system was retained.
It was explained to visiting delegates that a triangular course could always be sailed, but whether windward and leeward course was practicable was largely dependent on the tides. The International Yacht Racing Union rules were adopted for tsie contest and it wae decided that the sailing committee should consist of all conference delegates. In view of the widespread interest, it was decided to send an urgent telegram to the Director of Broadcasting, asking for further consideration of broadcasts.
