WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
Waitakarurn.—The eighth birthday of the Waitakaruru Women's Institute was ! celebrated recently in the local hall. Mrs. Laing presided and the function | was opened by the singing of a song [ of welcome written for the occasion by Mrs. Laing. A dainty lunch was served . by members, and this was followed by . the ceremony of cutting the cake. Past p presidents of the institute lit and [ extinguished the eight candles, and the , cake was then cut by the youngest i member of the institute. Presidents of visiting institutes each presented Mrs. ' Laing with floral tokens, and on behalf ' of their respective institutes conveyed birthday greetings to the Waitakaruru Institute. An entertaining programme was provided by C. Coxhead. A. Coxliead, Hedges, Hinton, Pacey, and Misses Swales and Boswell. Aka Aka.—Mrs. J. K. Hull presided and was presented with bouquets by Miss Louden, Mrs. McElwain and Mrs. Hay. Mrs. H. Jolly and Mrs. T. P. McNamara were receiving hostesses. A concert party was organised by Mrs. Winifred Osborne, Auckland. The perr formers included Mrs. W. Osborne, Miss , Edna Peace, Mr. H. Dallimore, Mr. Z. Mitchell, Mr. N. Laud, Mr. T. Williams, Miss Betty Birch and Mr. Ron Batkin. r For the brithday ceremonials Mrs. Mc- , El wain, president A.D.F. executive, Mrs. Hay convener Waiuku group committee, and the presidents of Waiuku, Glens brook and Awhitu Women's Institutes f conveyed greetings and received bouquets. Candles were lit and blown and the cake cut by Mrs. J. K. Hull. The two-tiered cake was made by Mrs. Gordon Kitson and iced by Mrs. T. P. McNamara.
