BROTHERS QUARREL.
KNIFE IS BRANDISHED. - OI& GIVEN PROBATION. A tFnm Our Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Tuesday. The brandishing of a butcher's knife in a threatening manner in front of his brother led to <he appearance of William Charles Hassett, a labourer, aged 21, of Frankton, in the Police Court to-day charged with assaulting Robert Pirie Harisett. Accused pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant G. H. Lambert said that accused and hie brother had quarrelled on November 24} and much abuse had passed between them. Accused insisted that his brother should retract some of the words he used and, on his brother proving obdurate, he drew the knife. On November 28 accused again met his brother and, pulling out the knife, threatened." added Senior-Sergeant Lambert: Accused did not attempt to strike Ids brother. There was a certain amount of provocation, for some vile language was-used. - Accused said he was not the aggressor and grabbed the. knife in self-defence. Accused was convicted -and was admitted t*> probation for 12 months.
