"ALICE" AND MUM." Complaint that the publishing committee of the Auckland division of the National jwtrty had issued a challenge to him to publish a letter in which the' "author'' of "Alice in Plunderland" and "Dad. Mum and Bill" had offered his services to the Labour party, and were not present at his meeting in the State Theatre, Devonport, last evening to hear his acceptance of the challenge, was made by Mr. F. W. Schramm, candidate for Auckland East.

"In a letter published in the 'Star' the National party said no such letter was ever written by the author and that I had been the victim of a hoax," said Mr. Schramm. "What I said at my meeting in Parnell was that the author of these propaganda articles had been dispensed with and that he had written offering his service* to the Labour party, and that another man had got his place. Well, here is the letter."

Mr. Schramm held up a letter. "I have got possession of it, and you can all see it. It was not written to me, but I have got it. How dare the National party challenge me to produce it and they are not here to-night to see it. It just shows you how sincere is the printed propaganda in the daily papers. I'll leave it at that." (Applause.)
