MARIST DEFEATED. SPECTACULAR GAME. acAßonr or 21 points. Playing spectacular football, the Eastern Suburbs team, of Sydney, opened their New Zealand tour in convincing fashion at Carlaw Park on Saturday, , when they defeated Mari*t, the Auckland club champions, by 36 point* to Id. The visitor* opened with a run of 15 point*, but Marist managed to draw level. Mnrist lost Woods, on? of their forwards, through injury, and then Eastern Suburb* had another scoring run. They were distinctly the better side on the day. For Eastern Suburbs -trie* were scored hy Hydr (2), H. Pierce (2), Kobinson, Arnold, Dunn and 8. Pearce. Norton converted six. For Mar int. trie* were scored by Anderson, Matthews and Murdoch. Anderson converted two and kicked a penalty HoaJ.
