COMING OF AGE.

A most enjoyable dance and entertainment was given Nurse Val Gilbert Smith, of the Auckland Hospital, in the German Club rooms, to celebrate her coming of age. There were some sixty guests. On behalf of her mother, her brother presented her with a large key, which was duly autographed by her numerous friends. Decorations were carried out in blue and gold, daffodils adorned the suppertables. A most unique proceeding was the cutting of the cake, with her great-great-great-grandfather's naval sword. Items were given by Mr. A. McMahan (magician), Misses Jones (tap dancers), Mrs. Howley and Mr. Clyde Howley (monologues). The guest of honour also gave some piano solos.
