UNEMPLOYED LABOUR
WORKS AT DEVONPORT
Approval of a 100 per cent subsidy for labour on Devonport Boroush Council works for the relief of unemployment was received by the council from Mr. W. J. Lyon. M.P. for Waitemata. last evening. The position as plar-ed before Mr. Lyon was that unless author ity was <riven for the extra labour beiii' engaged on works necessitating a mum cost for material and transport as a 100 per cent labour subsidy, the council could not employ extra labour. Extra labour at present "employed comprised 71 men. Mr. Lyon advised that the desired authority had been given for 41 men and the position of the remaining men would be given Departmental consideration. The town clerk, Mr. A. E. Wilson. explained that provision had now been made for the 71 men. The Government's offer w*s accepted.
