OVERSEAS TEAMS.

CALIFORNIA AND N.S.W.

AUCKLAND'S ATTITUDE. At last nijyht'e meeting of the Auckland Rugby Football Union a letter was read from Mr. Jam cm K. Mitchell, manager of the University of California Rugby team. Los Angelee, elating that his team may be eeen in action in Xew Zealand next winter.

Mr. Mitchell said the University planned to eend its Rugby team on a tour of Australia and New Zealand in July and August. 1939, and (sought assistance in making plane for a schedule of games in New Zealand. He stated that he was also getting in touch with University authorities. Tly? team would be fully representative of American football etrenctoh and was confident it would provide good matches. There was no desire to make a profit from the tour, but assistance would be expected from gate receipts.

Mr. A. A. Baker (chairman) remarked that the matter was not one for the Auckland Union, but for the Xew Zealand Union. The letter wae therefore referred to the latter body.

Mr. Tj. D. Colfran, University delegate. eaid the University of Xew Zealand Football Council would probably take the matter in hand.

At least one Rugby Union in the Auckland province requested that a match be arranged for it with the Xew South Wales Fire Brigade team. This was deferred until the receipt of further advice from Sydney.

Mr. A. J. Billington: We will soon be able to arrange a complete -tour of the Xorth Inland. (Laughter. , )

Meantime the Xew Zealand Council has called for knowledge of the whole proposition, as it considers the matter ie one that concerns the fioverning body, and wilt be dealt with at its meeting at Wellington on June 10. Byes In Second Ronnd.

The question of byes in tho second round of the senior comnetition was raised I>y a letter from the Xorth Shore Club, asking if it could play a match at Waihi on June 25.

It was reported that four senior clubs '•were opposed to having byes, while 11 favoured the idea, and one had not expressed an opinion. The match committee is to be asked to report bv next week in order that, if it is deemed necessary the draw for the second round can be made then.
