GOOD JUMPING.

POROTITI PLEASES.

HUSKIE AND KILBERIS.

THIS MORNING'S WORK.

Considerable interest was taken in the semi-final gallops in connection with the Great Northern meeting at Ellerslie this morning, there being a large attendance of spectators. A fog which did not clear till about nine o'clock prevented some gallops being timed, but after that the weather was perfect. The going on No. 1 grass track, on which the poles were out 10ft, was in good order, although cutting out somewhat. Hurdles were erected on the outaide of the course proper, while several horses were schooled over country. The best efforts on the flat were those of Knight of Australia, Valmint, Trilllarch, Te Hai and Tybalt. Among the jumpers Porotiti, Huskie and Kilberis shaped well over hurdles, and Lucidus, Royal Limond, Bryce Street and Riotoue acquitted themselves nicely over the steeples.

No. I Grass. Kilonsa (McTavish) opened proceedings by covering a round in 2.5 1-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.24. Captain Bruce came home with her over the last half mile, which he ran in 51 l-ss. This was a good effort. Knight of Australia (Tremain) and Wee Pat (Williams) completed .a round in 2.2 2-5. The last seven furlongs

took 1.38 4-5, and Knight of Australia was doing hie work in good style at the end. .r Palmint (P. Fearn) finished well clear of Master Appellant (Stokes) at the conelueion of half a mile, which took 53 4-s*. Bronze Wing (Metcalf) was in front of Bright Idea (Buchanan) at the conclusion of six ftirlonga, which occupied 1.25 3-5. Both could have improved on the time. High Star (McTavish) did strong work oyer a round, taking 2.12 2-5, the lant seven furlongs being covered in 1.47 2-5. Aynton (Gallagher) *n allotted iieefnl work, hitting out well, but could not be timed. This also applies to Fleur d'Or, who was going freely down the straight. Cheval de Volee (James) Tim timed to run the last half mile of his work in ,_JS2 2-se. Enge strode oyer seven furlongs in 1.40 2-5. after commencing slowly -and taking 45 3-5e for hia first three, furlongs; Maori Song'was sprinted over a few furlonge, displaying plenty of dash,'but could not be timed owing to the fog. Hesketoon (W. Jones) was under restraint throughout six furlongs, which he completed in 1.28 2-5. The stablematee' Crooning (Gall) and Prival (Baker) were . not extended while traversing seven furlongs in 1.42 2-5, the last six taking 1.27 2-5. This pair are ■in fine racing condition. Arikira (Green) and Love Parade (Markwick) completed the last half mile of their work in 54 2-ss. There was little between them at the end. Hunting Blood (Trillo) was not timed, but he -went very freely over a few furlonge. The Trimmer (Tucker) came home over the last three furlongs of hia work in 43 2-5». ( Trilli- . arch (W. Jones) showed to more, advantage than Pirate King (Gilchriet) and ■ . Barrister (Tremain), the latter being-sev-eral lengths back at the end of five furlongs run in 1.6 2-5, the best of the morning. The jumpers, Jolly Beggar (Cammick) and All Irish (R. Fearn)..went .particularly well over a round which took 1.58 2-5, the last seven furlongs occupying 1.36 4-5. Jolly Beggar finished in front. Hirangi (Beale) was given strong / work covering about a mile and a half. running his last three furlonge in 41 2-se. Te Hai (Manson) was in front of Ohrnaha (Murray), with -Shy (Nicholson) easing up at the conclusion of half a mile in 51 4-s*. Te Hai put plenty of daah into his task, - and it was a good effort. Mai de Mer COough) was too good- for Summary (Fearn) over seven furlongs run in 1.36 : 3-5. Alyth (Gilchriet) had an advantage over School Song (Vaughan) over the concluding stages of seven furlongs, which took 1.35 1-5. They ran the firnt three in 40 3-5s and the trial wa» a very satisfactory one. The Cornwall "Handicap candidates Valmint (Murray). Tybalt (Gil- \ christ) and Waitnka (Tremein) were associated in a trial over a mile. They went from practically a standing - start and ran the distance in 1.48 1-5. Velmint, who finished on solidly, and Tybalt were practically on terms at the end, with Waitiikii. whose time was 1.52. some distance away. Clarion Call < Jenkins) strode over a round in 2.9 3-5. He increased, the pace over the last half mile, coming home from there in 545. He hit out with, plenty of dash. Silk Sox was given useful work on the sand. :• ■ ■.-' i ■'■ : •■

Hurdles In Centre. Professional (Gougli) wa* cent over four schooling hurdles in the centre, hie effort being an improvement on that of Tuesday. .. . '

Jolly Dance (Stoked) warn sent over six of the eame hurdles. She did not have much pace on. and although she got round eafely her effort was nothing to enthuee over.

The Course Proper. : Porotiti (McDowell). Windsor ham ;(Muiv) and Pyrenees (LYaddoek) were in' -.that order at the oonuiiMion of a bout :i«rer mix hurdles on the course proper, .completing the triul (from hurdle to SauSl«J in I't eave a daubing Pyrenees and Windeor Lase ln P O,l " tyle - Ground Swell ria«r »t the second thj» next ebj&w , £52 ««H «t Ground 8«^- ! tiE^L^M$n'by.;Qough,

Huekie (Muir), Kilberie (Trillo) and Baes (Fergus) were associated over eix hurdles, and ran round in 2.23 4-5. Bane made play until the last" couple of furlongs, where. Huekip and Kilberis moved up, and thus, pair were on terms over the last obstacle, both giving a very satisfactory exhibition. Huekie .impressed by the manner in which he was running on at the end.

Over the Hill. Riotoue (McDowell), Royal Limond (McDonald), Lucidus (Beale), Bryce Street (Trillo), My Money (Stokes), United (Sinton) and Tane Mahotu (Olive) were associated over a round of the big fences, but after going over the sodwall Tane Mahotu was pulled off. My Money, United, Riotoue and Lucidus led the others over the double, and there wae little change till they got over the hill, Lucidus leading on to the flat from Bryce Street, Riotous and Royal Limond, who were all close up. At the completion of the task, the stonewall, Lucidus and Royal Limond were just ahend of Riotous and Bryce Street. Royal Limond, who wae raced in blinkers, performed right up to his best, and it is unfortunate that the rules of racing will not allow blinkers to be used in a race.

Power Chief (McDonald) trailed Tahae Mea (Gough) until near the end of a round over the steeplechase course, and wae just in front at the finish. He got in rather close to the stonewall, which he hit hard.
