NEW LECTURER.
ECONOMICS POSITION.
AUCKLAND GRADUATE'S SUCCESS.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. It is announced that Mr. John Ord Shearer, lecturer in economics at the University of West Australia, Perth, has been appointed lecturer in the department of economics at Victoria University College, Wellington. Mr. Shearer is a New Zealander and a graduate of Auckland University College. He took his B.A. degree at Auckland in 1928, winning the Univer-
sity of New Zealand senior scholarship in economics in 1930. He graduated M.A. with firet-class honours in economics, hie thesis being entitled "Control of Monopoly in New Zealand." During 1931 he pursued general study of this subject at Cambridge University, following the award of a research fellowship by the. Rockefeller Foundation. Mr. Shearer has held various lecturing positions in New Zealand. In 1924, as member of the Workers' Educational Association class, he was awarded a university bursary, enabling him to attend Auckland University College.
