3000 MAORIS EXPECTED
MEMORIAL HALL OPENING.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBQRNE, this day. With the date of the hui to be held in connection with the opening of the Sir James Carroll Memorial Hall drawing near, finality is being reached in the task of accommodation and feeding. Three thousand natives are expected to be present. With regard to actual accommodation it is thought that this will be satisfactorily arranged. Sleeping quarters for 2000 are already arranged, but plans are being made for further accommodation in marquees for another 1000. This will mean that sleeping accommodation for 3000 will be available at the Marae.
This is being reserved for visitors, as local people have to arrange their own accommodation outside the Marae. Private homes in Wairoa will also house large numbers of visitors.
Three Targe dining rooms have been completed and -will house 1200 people at one time. To feed the vast throng will prove a big problem, and. approximately 150 bullocks are required. In order to help along Ihe food question cattle drives are beinp h,eld, and are meeting with success.
The hui will begin on June 14 with welcomes to the visitors. On Wednesday and Thursday a hockey tournament will be played, with the finals on Friday, the same date as the official opening of the new and modern Wairoa dairy factory. After opening the Taihoa Hall at Te Whi at 9.15 a.m., the Minister of Lands, the Hon. F. Langstone, will open the Carroll Memorial Ha , !!, following which there will be the presentation of the Ahuwhenua Cup, presented by Lord BledUloe for the beet Maori farmer each year.
A church service on Sunday, June ls">, will be conducted by the Bishop of Aotearoa. This will conclude the celebrations.
Included among the distinguished visitors expected are King Koroki and Princess Te Puea.. A special invitation has been extended to the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, M.P., the Rt. Hon. J* G. Coates] M.P.. and the Hon. Adam Hamilton, Leader of the Opposition.
