SWORDFISH CLUB.

BAT OF ISLANDS OPENING.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WHANGAREI, this day,

Although it is most unueual for any successful fishing activity until November, three catches marked the opening of the Bay of Islands Swordfish Club yesterday.

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hassall were out in the launch Valhalla and Mrs. Hassall was successful in landing two striped marlin, the finst of which turned the scales of 2441b and the second at 2561b.

The third catch was secured by Mr. A. Rust, of Auckland, in the launch Phyllis. Mr. Rust hooked a small merlin. It put up a great fight, leaping in spectacular fashion but was played out in half an hour.
