ANTARCTIC PLANS.
Mr. Ellsworth's Fact-Finding Expedition. MAP ENDERBY QUADRANT. NEW YORK, May 6. The noted explorer and airman, Mr. Lincoln Ellsworth, in an article in the "New York Times," copyrighted by the North American Newspaper Alliance, announces his fourth expedition to Antarctica. He says he is hoping to map from the air the Enderby Quadrant, the world's largest unknown territory. Equipped with a Northrup-Delta aeroplane the expedition's ship, Wyatt Earu, will sail from New York on August 10, 1938. Mr. Ellsworth will join her at Capetown on October 10. If conditions are favourable, Mr. Ellsworth may attempt a flight from the coast of Enderby Land across the Antarctic continent to Little America, a distance of 2000 miles.
The explorer says: "It is my hope that from this fact-finding expedition we shall be able to bring back much geological and scientific information. Mawson found definite evidence of silver, copper and other minerals along the coast which may be indicative of rich deposits inland.
"This area has already been claimed by Australia. Consequently I shall not be able to claim any new territory for the United States. On my return trip it may be necessary to head for Australia on account of a shortage of feet"
