PARISHIONERS' MEETING. There was the largest attendance since pre-war times at the annual meeting of j St. Hamuli:)* parishioners, which was held j in the Parish Hall. The newly-appointed '■ vicar, the Rev. C. K. Montoith, presided. j Tin , annual meeting was preceded by a short ciitrrtaiiimcnt programme. Both vicar and churchwardens in their . respective reports made appreciative ! reference to the work of tiie Rev. Canon 1 ,, . <;. Hnrvie, wlio has retired from the parish after seven years' ministry and has ! taken up church work in England. The vii-ar nominated Mr. J. T. Williams as his warden for the year. The election ot ofiicors resulted as follows: — Parishioners' warden. Mr. T. Harris: vestry. Messrs. J. Allan. J. Evans, A. .1. Kiclilcr, .1. .lohnsou, F. Leonard. \V. ' .!. Hampton-Keynolds, H. C. Kohinson. K. j (.; K. Simmons, 1). Sword. K. Waketield; s.vnodsmen. Mr. H. C. Kohinson and Mr. 1 S. Harris: auditor. Mr. A. K. Crindrod. ; The statement of accounts for the year eiidina March 31, W.'SS, disclosed a deficit of £14 12/9. The treasurer of the parish car fund , reported that the sum of £172 was on j hand to date." The nieetinp resolved to adopt the retiring vestry's recommendation that a weekly offering envelope system should he instituted immediately and that collections in church should lie discontinued. Jt was njjreed to form a Parish Social ami Dramatic Club. Regarding the religious exercises? in schools the following resolution was carried unanimously: — "That this meeting of parishioners of the St. Barnabas' (Church of England I parish, Mount Eden, protests in the name of Christian democracy against the expressed intention of the Minister of Education to terminate the daily voluntary religious exercises in the State primary schools of the Dominion, and recommends that, if authority for such exercises is not already provided for, provision be made for the eame in the new Education Bill.
