RESTORING HOMES.
EFFORTS OF GOVERNMENT. (By Telegraph.—Preee Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. "Arrangement* have been made to provide four additional.. silt-clearing machines, so that the great quantity of silt and other flood debris may be removed with the least possible delay/' said the Prime Minister, the Right Hon. M. J. Sava'ge, this evening. "In addition, the Public Works Department hae transferred to the devastated area as many machines as can be made immediately available. These are already on the job and doing good work in removing silt from homesteads and farm lands. The latest report from the engineer in the area shows that satisfactory progress ie being made in providing relief. "The Government will do everything humanly possible without any delay to restore something like normal working condu ons on the flood-littered lands of Eawke's Bay."
