BEATS NOVICE FIELD.

Siwell Impresses—Queen Lu Likely Improver.

The winter meeting of the Franklin Racing Club is being held at Pukekohe to-day in fine weather. There is a large attendance,'hut owing to recent rain the going is holding. Dragon Moth run right up to her Arondale form to beat the opposition in the opening event, the Pukekawa Handicap. ])u Maurier went a jrood race, as also did Mai de Mer, l>ut the favourite, Prival, disappointed. Mia Fratollo was slow away, and (Jay Keliol began best from Prival, Mundane, Du Maurier and Abbey Lass. Mundane took the lead along the back, with Abbey Las*, Du Maurier, Mai de Mer and Prival next, followed by Dragon Moth and Mia Fratollo. Mai de Mer and Du Maurier were on terms crossing the top from Abbey Lass and Dragon Moth, with Prival leading the others. In a great race up the straight Dragon Moth finished gamely to boot Du Maurier by a short head, with Mai de Mer two lengths further back. Prival was fourth, then came Abbey Lass. Mundane, Mia Fratollo, Gay Rebel, I School Song and Chief Lap. A Comfortable Win. Taking charge along the back High Star scored a comfortable win in the Pa pa k ura. Hurdles, this being his second success within the last two weeks. Siwel put up a good effort and but for a faulty jump near the six-furlong post may have been closer. For a novice Queen Lu made a good showing and is a likely improver, ilana and limes Lad lost ground at the start, and .Tan Ridd led over the first fence from Slam. Rua King. Count RoUßPillion and Salesman. Passing the stands Jan Ridd was four lengths ahead ot High Star, t'-.en came Queen Lu. Count RouseiUion. Floodlight and Siwel. with Innes Lad and Mann at the rear. High Star had Hiarge along the back, with .Tan Ridd handy, then came Siwel. Floodlight and Queen Lu. with Count Roussillion and 1 tines Lad next. Siwel riMi up to High Star crossing the top, and this pair led into the straight from Queen Lu and Full of Scotch, with Floodlight and limes Lad heading the others. In the run to the judge High Star drew out t<> beat Siwel by a length and a quarter, with Queen Lu three len-uis away. Full of Scotch was fourth, followed by Floodlight. Innes Lad. T<>p Star and Salesman Count Houssillion fell at the last fence. Her First Success. After (several failures Sen Acre restored her first victory when *he accounted for the Otaua" Handicap today. The two leaders ran wide as they straightened Up and General Ri~ke ran to'~tiio front, but Sen Acre came aunin and went on to beat him by a length and a half, with Cintrace a similar distance away. Lapidarian. who got away badlv. wa* fourth, followed by Silver Glow! TTie Trimmer, Electric Spear and Marnui.
